How Christians Handle Divorce

Divorce is a very painful event that happens in a person's life. Some people have equated divorce with death. It has been said that when you divorce from your spouse, it is like you have lost a piece of yourself. Christians tend to handle divorce a little bit differently from the way the world handles divorce. Even the reasons that Christians divorce seem to be different from the reasons why non-Christians get a divorce.

While most people divorce due to incompatibility, Christians tend to divorce because of adultery, abuse and abandonment. While it is good that Christians tend to stay married longer than non-Christian couples, it is not good that they do tend to still get a divorce. Some Christians have found that after their horrible divorce, they experience rejection and harsh words from not only their friends and family, but their church members. Some church members tend to be so judgmental and critical that they forget that they should pray and help that newly divorced church member be restored back to Christ.

Some Christians have found that the only way to deal with the effects of a judgmental church is to find a new church or stay from church altogether for a while. Pastors seem to have the most difficulty because they are the example for the church members. Pastors are human beings and experience problems just like everyone else. Christians have to learn to be more forgiving like Christ and just be the support that a Christian who is dealing with a divorce needs.
