President-Elect Obama's Christian Views

Barack Obama took the same walk as countless millions of Christians in America, and across the world, to initiate a new life in Christ. He walked down a church aisle that led to a baptismal pool and declared Jesus was the Lord of his life. He came to this conclusion after his own searching for God.

President-elect Obama has practiced his Christian faith since the early 1990's. He was baptized and joined the Trinity Church in Chicago and attended the same church until the controversy with his pastor last summer. Over the years, his attendance has varied, but he has pursued God through personal study and reflection.

President-elect Obama reports occasional doubts of faith and salvation. He struggles over the absolute Biblical dogma of salvation and Jesus being the only way. As a politician, he struggles with his personal beliefs, public responsibility and his decision making for those who don't believe as he does.

Evangelical Christians may measure Obama in absolute biblical terms; for example, his voting record on same sex unions or abortion. Social activist Christians by contrast, measure Obama from the same matters with more liberal tenets; neither of these interpretations are perfect. Ultimately the Judge Himself who has placed Him here for a time such as this, will be the final measure.

President-elect Obama states that he prays everyday, reads his Bible as often as he can and seeks to perform God's will in his every day life. He admittedly is in a process of attempting to live his life as a Christian, worshiping God and fulfilling God's purpose. There is so much more expected of a Christians walk, but isn't this the starting place?
