Christian views on Atheism have been discussed and dissected for many years. The Christian faith believes that there is one God and creator. Herein lies the long standing difference of opinion.
Christians believe that all of creation is the work of God. They tend to view Atheists as hypocrites because they think they do not ignore the design of creation, but they defend their lack of belief through scientific means. Many Christians are uncomfortable and suspicious of Atheism, and think that Atheists attack their God personally. There is a lot of prejudice on the part of many Christians. Even so, Christians abide by the importance of ethics and teach that religious freedom must always be granted, even to Athiests. They do concede that Atheists have the right to state their belief that God does not exist.
As late as the 1980s, Christians didn't think that Atheists should have the freedom to speak their beliefs at all. Many of them wanted to ban them from using public venues to preach Atheism. Throughout the following decade, they started to view Atheism as having a impact on society's decline. They thought of Atheists as being self indulgent and having no concern for the common good. Atheism is rated very low on the list of acceptance by Christians. There has not been much social tolerance for them over the past thirty years.
The mere fact that Christians and Atheists are not going to change their beliefs tells us that both groups will continue to have the same opinions of each other, possibly with some concessions, for as long as they both co-exist in society.
