There was a lot of talk during the 2008 Presidential campaign about Barak Obama not being a Christian. Elements of the press and some voters have been slandering him ever since he openly stated that he was accepting the nomination for president. However, Obama openly admits to being a devout Christian and it is hard to believe that one could tell such a convincing lie if he were not. He was baptized in a Baptist church in Chicago in 1988 and remained with the church until he separated from it during the election. The reason for this was some less than appropriate statements made by the church’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright.
Barak Obama has said that he trusted in Jesus for the forgiveness of his sins. He also said that he trusts Jesus for eternal life and anyone who is familiar with the Bible knows that this is a crucial part of being a true believer. Obama also believes in following the example that Jesus set when He walked the earth.
Every interview during which the President Elect has been posed the question: "are you a Christian or do you believe in God" have been responded to positively and directly. He certainly sounds sincere. In fact, in his speech “The Audacity of Hope” at the Democratic National Convention, which was very inspiring, he mentioned God numerous times. He did the same during his acceptance speech for the Presidency of the United States. To those around him, there has never been any question that Barak Obama is a devout Christian.
